URL Encoder and Decoder

Encode or decode a URL component with browser-native UTF-8 handling.

URL Encoder and DecoderProcessed in your browserLOCAL

This tool processes text in this tab without sending it to a server.

How to use URL Encoder and Decoder

Enter a single URL component such as a query value. Choose Encode to escape reserved characters, or Decode to read an encoded component. The tool shows an error if a percent escape or UTF-8 sequence is malformed.

A practical example

“hola mundo & café” encodes as “hola%20mundo%20%26%20caf%C3%A9”. Decoding that string returns the original text.

What to check before using the result

This uses encodeURIComponent and decodeURIComponent, not whole-URL encoding. A literal plus sign stays a plus sign during decoding; it is not treated as a space as in form-urlencoded data. Do not blindly encode an entire URL, because separators such as : and / will also be escaped.

Frequently asked question

Why does Decode reject my input?

An incomplete escape such as %2 or an invalid UTF-8 sequence cannot be decoded safely. Check that the input was copied completely and that it is actually a URL component.
